The prayer beads are made of bone and horn, while the string supporting the necklace is made of cotton. The buddhist monks count with their left hand, on each bead the number of mantras they have done. These wrist prayer beads, were each carved with a representation of a Buddha by the bodhi tree. Indeed, it was by a bodhi tree, that Buddha Shakyamuni fisrt found enlightenment.
